Junu Magrati

Junu comes from a family of shoemakers, which historically means that people consider her family to be a lower caste. Junu’s mother is the second wife of her father, who has three other children from his first marriage. Because her mother and stepmother live in the same house, it can sometimes cause a domestic disturbance. Even though the environment in her house is not ideal for studying, Junu is one of the brightest students in her class. Her favorite subjects are Science and Nepali. She wants to be a Nurse. However, because of her family size, her father is not able to pay tuition for all of his children, and not surprisingly Junu, as one of the daughters was in danger of being pulled out of school.  With the help of the foundation, Junu did very well in school, graduating from Shikharapur and now studying science at Arunodaya Higher Secondary.

Junu’s mother has been a huge positive influence on her education since she herself has been involved in continuing education through ASC’s women’s school. They help each other with their education.
