Monthly Newsletter – March 2012
Namaste

Can you believe that a quarter of  the year is already over?  Time flies when you are having fun, and fun we had this past month.  Rukmini Foundation is showing that doing good can also be fun.

Fundraising: small events and big results

When we left off last month, we had talked about trying to put together a few events to energize our supporters and to hopefully raise some funds for our efforts in Nepal. We can report that we were very successful in both aspects.  We held two events in the month of March (Ruk & Roll – a bowling event in Pittsburgh and Darts for Charity – a darting event in Columbus, OH).  Through these efforts, we were able to get the word out about what we are doing, gain interest from people outside of our immediate circle and raise over a $1,000 from these two events.  All of this was done while we had fun bowling and playing darts.

See more pictures of our bowling event.

In the coming months, we look forward to holding more small events that will be inexpensive for us to put together, but will bring lots of enjoyment to our participants while raising much needed funds.  Be on the lookout for more event invites.

Case study: Rukmini Foundation as a learning tool for University students

Recently, Rukmini Foundation was invited to speak about the importance of marketing for nonprofits as part of a Services Marketing course at University of Pittsburgh, Katz School of Business.  Dr. Kiersten Maryott was our host as we talked about the challenges of marketing for nonprofits.

The event gave us a chance to reach out to future leaders in order to get their perspective on marketing for services like nonprofits while also educating the students about the harsh realities for girls in underdeveloped parts of the world.  Great ideas were shared by the students and we hope they learned as much as we did.  Truly a wonderful event, and we look forward to doing more school visits like this one.

Looking ahead to the coming months

Here is a quick list of things to look out for in April:

  • Awards Ceremony for the first class or Rukmini Scholars
  • Start of School (around Mid-April)
  • Blog about the Anniversary celebration for the women’s school in Pharping.
  • We will also look to schedule more fun events for our supporters (be on the lookout for invites)

It promises to be a busy April … no fooling.

Till next time … Namaste.
