Sandhya Ghimire

When Sandhya first joined us, she used to be known as Samjhana, but has since officially changed her name to Sandhya. She comes from a family of 8 including her parents, three older brothers, a sister-in-law, and a niece. Two of her brothers work as bus drivers in Kathmandu while the other brother is attending school. Her father sells dairy products in a nearby temple while her mother and sister-in-law work as agricultural laborers.  With a family as big as hers, the limited income of her parents makes it difficult to pay for everything.  Through the Rukmini Scholar program, Sandhya and her family did not have to worry about that, and was able to focus on her studies.

After 3 years of hard work, Sandhya graduated after passing the SLC Examinations. She was one of eight scholars who passed in 2014. You can read more about her and the rest of that class in this post. She is not stopping there, and is now pursuing additional education at Tribhuwan Adarsha College. Besides school, she enjoys playing cricket, even though it is not considered normal for a girl to play.  She hopes that she will get to play with actual equipment some day.
